Experience Matters

Economy & Jobs

For Ohio’s economy to continue in a positive direction, we need senators who have private sector and local government experience. Jerry Cirino has both and has put that experience to work for all Ohioans. The voters of our community care about JOBS and the health of our economy. They want a senator who has created jobs and who understands what it takes to support a family.

As a private sector businessman, Jerry Cirino has created hundreds of jobs right here in our district. As a county commissioner, he used conservative governing to help create an environment where entrepreneurs and small business owners thrived. Senator Cirino has the experience that has helped Ohio rebuild its economy post-COVID.

Protecting Our Communities

As both County Commissioner (Lake) and as Senator, Jerry has always believed that the first responsibility of elected officials is to keep our communities safe. Individuals, families, and businesses deserve to feel safe and protected. Jerry has consistently supported legislation to keep our communities safe and to support law enforcement and all first responders.

Protecting the Interests of Seniors

As a senior himself, Jerry understands the needs of our growing number of seniors in Ohio. Providing budget dollars to local government and Jobs and Family Services used to protect seniors and provide needed support services have always been priorities for Jerry. Making sure that Seniors are protected from scams and that their fixed incomes are not challenged by unfair taxes will continue to be Jerry’s focus in the future.

Size and Scope of Government

As a conservative, Jerry has always believed that state and local governments should control more and more of their destiny…not less. Our federal government has grown way beyond the original intent of our Founders and has become expensive and intrusive in many ways. Past administrations forgot about the concept of ‘enumerated powers’ and have misused the ‘Commerce Clause’ as an excuse to meddle in state and local affairs.

Education and Workforce Development

Every Ohio student should have access to a high quality education at all levels, regardless of where they live or the value of their community’s real estate. While Jerry supports public schools, he does believe that parents are the primary educators of their children and that they should have choices. Children who live in school districts that are failing to achieve positive outcomes for students should not hold their students captive. Jerry has supported and will continue to support parental choice in how to educate their children.

In 2021, Jerry introduced Senate Bill 135, one of the most sweeping higher education reform bills in decades. This will make needed changes in higher ed policies and established the “Second Chance” program designed to give grants to students who have “stopped out” and wish to re-engage for a degree or certificate. The bill passed with 131 out of 132 votes in the legislature. This is just the first of many bills that will seek to make Ohio’s universities and community colleges the very best they can be and that they provide a true diversity of thought to best educate our students.

Jerry also sponsored a bill, Senate Bill 117, to establish five ‘institutes’ with our public universities to foster civics education and to promote diversity of thought on our campuses. This was passed in the budget in July 2023. With this major move, Senator Cirino has placed Ohio education in a true leadership position in the United States.
